The door has opened on a possible Manchester United move for Kylian Mbappe with his mother and agent Fayza Lamari growing frustrated with Real Madrid, according to reports in Spain.

Mbappe looked certain to be joining Real on a free transfer at the end of the season, and his current employers Paris Saint-Germain were so convinced of that that they excluded him from their pre-season tour of Japan and South Korea.

Mbappe also watched on from the stands as PSG got their Ligue 1 campiagn underway with a goalless draw at home to Lorient last Saturday, but he was back in the mix one week later, coming off the bench to score in a 1-1 draw at Toulouse.

What was said between Mbappe and PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi remains unknown, but a report from Spain suggests Madrid's lowball offer to the player has led him to reconsider his future.

'Madrid's offer insufficient'

"Madrid's offer is insufficient for his mother, who controls the extra-sporting affairs of the player," reports El Nacional's Robert Rodriguez. "She is already exploring other possibilities for when her son is a free agent, and he has two offers on the table.

"One of them is to continue at PSG, where Mbappe knows he will be well compensated. The other option is to pack his backs and got to Manchester United, becoming the new star of the club and dismantling the hegemony of Pep Guardiola's Manchester City."

Potential Manchester United owner Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani was previously understood to be targeting Mbappe as his marquee signing should he be successful in buying the club from the Glazer family.

And with Real's purse strings tigher than expected and Mbappe still available on a free at the end of the season as things stand, the Qatari could well have his chance.
